AI refers to intelligence expressed by machines as opposed to the natural intelligence exhibited by people and animals. The study of intelligent agents, or any system that senses its surroundings and takes actions to optimise its chances of attaining its objectives, is what is referred to as AI research.
Previously, robots that replicate and exhibit “human” cognitive abilities associated with the human mind, such “learning” and “problem-solving,” were referred to as “artificial intelligence.” Major AI researchers have now rejected this notion and are now describing AI in terms of rationality and acting rationally, which does not constrain how intelligence may be expressed.
